Total’s petrochemicals business consolidates, under the name Total
Petrochemicals, base chemicals produced in the steamcrackers and certain refinery conversion plants - olefins (ethylene, propylene), C4 fractions and
aromatics (benzene, toluene, xylenes, styrene) -, as well as the commodity
polymers they produce (polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene). With over
7,000 employees, Total Petrochemicals conducts its operations in Europe, the
United States, the Middle East and Asia.
In Belgium, in addition to its decision centre, which includes in particular the
activity’s 4 business units in Brussels, Total Petrochemicals also operates a
research centre as well as two of its largest petrochemicals facilities in Europe,
in Antwerp and in Feluy. Either adjacent to each other or interconnected via a
375 km cross-country pipeline network operated by Fina Antwerp Olefins, these
facilities form with the refinery one of the hubs of the Group’s integrated industrial
base in Europe. In polypropylene, Total Petrochemicals enjoys fourth place in the
world with a 2.4 million tonne annual production. Belgian production accounts for
850,000 tonnes.
