A world-scale multi-energy group
Total is the fourth leading integrated oil group listed in the world*. With operations in over
130 countries, the Group’s activities cover the entire petroleum and gas chain: oil and gas
exploration, development and production; downstream gas; refining and distribution; trading
and shipping of crude oil and petroleum products.
A major player in the chemical industry, Total also has interests in the following sectors: coal
mines, cogeneration and electricity. Finally, Total is paving the way for our energy future with its
commitment to developing renewable energies (wind, solar, photovoltaic).
The Group employs over 95,000 people throughout the world. Its 2006 sales amounted to
153.8 billion euros.

Total is one of the world’s leading integrated producers. Its Chemical branch
ranks among the leaders in Europe or in the world in each of its markets: Petrochemicals and
Fertilisers, Specialties.

With its international dimension, its energy and chemicals businesses, Total is directly concerned by the
global issues of economic, social and environmental balances. The Group is committed to concrete
objectives in terms of societal and environmental responsibility, whereby both the approach and the
performance are clearly established and made available to the public.
The main challenges of our responsibilities as a manufacturer are as follows: develop an energy supply
over the long term, ensure the safety of our operations, and minimise their impact on the environment,
participate in the fight against climate change, respect and promote human rights, protect the communities living near our plants, and contribute to the development of the host Countries.
