1920
Creation of Compagnie Financière Belge des Pétroles – PetroFina.

1949
Creation in Antwerp of Société Industrielle Belge des Pétroles - SIBP (now Total Raffinaderij Antwerpen) which was to become the heart of an integrated petroleum and petrochemical network.

1970
Creation of Belgochim (now Total Petrochemicals Feluy) in Feluy. Launch of the Group’s activities in the Centre region.

1991
Consolidation of research in Feluy under the name Fina Research (now Total Petrochemicals Research Feluy).

1999
Merger with Total PetroFina
PetroFina becomes TotalFina on 14th June.

2000
Merger with Elf Aquitaine
TotalFina becomes TotalFinaElf on 22nd March.

2003
TotalFinaElf is renamed Total on 6th May.

2004
Creation on 1st October of Total Petrochemicals, Total’s Petrochemicals Division. Its headquarters are based in Brussels.
